Kris Saxberg

Mr. Saxberg’s cases are often high-profile. He has been the lead or co-lead counsel on some of the biggest cases in Manitoba history.

Mr. Saxberg has practiced civil litigation in Manitoba and elsewhere since 1999. He was formerly a managing partner of D’Arcy & Deacon LLP and he co-founded Cochrane Saxberg LLP (now Cochrane Sinclair). Before law, he worked in broadcasting at CKND-TV and CBC-TV and was a musician.

Mr. Saxberg has also conducted many Child Protection trials, Child Abuse Registry hearings, Inquests and regulatory hearings involving Manitoba Hydro.

Our Expertise

Mr. Saxberg has served as lead or co-lead counsel in numerous notable cases, including the Children's Special Allowances Class Actions across Western Canada, the Kapyong Barracks surplus land dispute, the Monnin Inquiry, the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry, the MTS pension lawsuit, and regulatory matters involving the sale of Centra Gas to Manitoba Hydro.

Our Experience

Most recently, Mr. Saxberg achieved a significant legal victory by successfully challenging provincial legislation that unjustly sought to reclaim Children’s Special Allowances ("CSA") benefits from off-reserve Indigenous children in care. This landmark case led to the settlement of the CSA claims in September 2024, resulting in a substantial compensation of $530 million. Additionally, Mr. Saxberg takes pride in his long-standing role as the labour lawyer for TEAM-IFPTE Local 161, representing the interests of professional employees at Bell.
